Location Love – My favourite Spots on the Northern Beaches

We’re so lucky to call the Northern Beaches home. With its endless coastline, bush trails, and sun-drenched parks, there’s no shortage of stunning backdrops for your session.

Some spots shine at sunrise, others are pure magic at sunset. If there’s a special place close to your heart, we’ll time the session to suit the light at your favourite spot. Perhaps its where you got engaged, or where you first met, or perhaps where your baby took their first steps. Those meaningful locations are so beautiful to weave into your session.

And if you’re not sure where to go, I’ve got plenty of favourite spots and would love to help you choose the perfect one for your family.

Here are just a few of the locations I adore:

1. Curl Curl Beach
Curl Curl is a dream. Wide, open sands, rolling dunes, and ocean pools at both the North and South ends. It’s perfect for both sunrise and sunset, with plenty of room for the kids to run wild. There are even a couple of cafes nearby for a post-session treat. Parking is easy, and it’s often quieter than its neighbour, Freshie.

2. Freshwater Beach
Freshie is one of my all-time favourites for sunrise in the quieter months. The soft sand, rock platforms by the ocean pool and secret spots in the dunes, make it so special. Sunrise is gorgeous there especially when the tide is low. The headland walk between Freshwater and Curl Curl adds even more variety to your gallery too with the boardwalks and ocean views.

3. Turimetta Beach
Tucked away and a little more adventurous, Turimetta is a hidden gem. You’ll need to walk down some steps tp get to it, but it’s well worth it. With dramatic cliffs, textured rock platforms, and soft golden light at sunrise, it’s a stunning spot for those craving something a little wild and windswept and at sunset its a great option if you need your session to start a little earlier as we have the shade from the cliffs there allowing us to start sessions earlier in summer than we can at other beaches.

4. Palm Beach
Palm Beach has it all. Whether you’re after sunrise or sunset, you’ve got the best of both worlds with the ocean on one side and the harbour on the other. There are plenty of beautiful nooks to shoot in, and if you’re up for a wander, the walk up to Barrenjoey Lighthouse offers incredible views and a bit of adventure too for your session.

5. Red Hill
Tucked away in the bushland of the Northern Beaches near Cromer, Red Hill is a stunning spot full of texture and colour. The smooth rocky landscape here is something special, with bright red, soft pink, and creamy white tones against a backdrop of native trees and open sky. It works beautifully for both sunrise and sunset, with golden light spilling across the rocks and bush. It’s perfect if you’re after an earthy, nature-filled setting that feels a little different from the usual beach vibes.

6. Pittwater and Clareville
On the harbour side in Pittwater, the sea is gentler and calmer, perfect for little ones and peaceful, golden sunsets. I especially love Clareville, where leafy trees meet the shoreline and the light dances on the water. There are so many secret spots tucked away in Pittwater. If you’re keen, I’d love to share my favourite hidden gems with you. There is also a gorgous location in Mona Vale by the water which is perfect if you want to bring your furry friend too.

Whether you’re dreaming of a barefoot beach adventure or a quiet, bush-framed sunset, we’ll find the perfect setting for your story. Just reach out if you’d like help choosing. We’ll make it magic together.
